Venice has long been known for its creative and magnificent glass production. From mirrors to champagne glasses, chandeliers to writing pens, these items found their way to every corner of the world. They were well made and often highly colorful. Marbles have been one of the less appreciated products of the Venetian glass makers, probably because of their prohibitive cost. Handmade marbles are now highly collectible. The difference between machine-made and hand-blown marbles can be seen by the small hole in the glass, a tell-tale sign of the glass rod used by the glass-blower to hold and turn the glass sphere in the kiln.
