Cannon casting was definitely regarded as an art. Before going into production to complete the cannons for a large war vessel, the Admiralty board was presented with a detailed scale model of the chosen gun. This is such a cannon model, larger than usual, delicate turning. An exact 13” long barrel. Mahogany, polished, medium honey finished.
